JOINS 8th PNHRS Conference
This year’s 8th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Conference theme is “Research and Innovation in Health for Disaster and Emergency Management” . The Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development as the host came up with the theme because of the experience from the Bohol Earthquake and typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), in 2013. The plenary and parallel sessions of research activity centered on disaster and emergency health research showcasing the role of research in disaster: preparedness and response, use of information and communication technology, coordinating mechanisms for service delivery and role of social media.
The PNHRS Conference week is celebrated 1st week of August every year. It serves as a platform for the different stakeholders in health research & Development to share information, experiences that will contribute research based solutions to health needs/problems of the Filipinos.
The Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development were one of the consortia who participated in the said national research activity. The group was led by the BCHRD Chair and President of Bicol University Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya. With the group were BCHRD Director Alma Banua, Committee Chairs Sandy Lasa (USI) and Laarni Salcedo (CSPC), also Alvin Ogalesco (CSU), Marilou Tino (USANT) Franco Velasco (BCHRD project assistant) and Grace Torres (BU).
Finalist to the Research presentation, student poster category were Christine Arcueno, a registered nurse of BUCN and Keith Barreda, a graduate of BUCS now a premedial student. The BCHRD also presented a poster that highlighted the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management of Albay.
