The Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development (BCHRD) was established in 2007 as the recognized regional mechanism for coordinating, integrating, and strengthening health research and development initiatives in the Bicol Region. The consortium is composed of member institutions, including but not limited to higher education institutions, government agencies, health service providers, research organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
Through the strengthened collaboration of various member institutions in the Bicol Region, the BCHRD aims:
General Objectives:
1. To strengthen the system of collaboration in the region to develop and enhance the capacity of institutions within the region engaged and interested in health research;
2. To identify, develop, and implement priority health research programs/projects targeting identified priority health problems; and
3. To optimize the use of research to help alleviate the health problems of the people in the Bicol Region.
Specific Objectives:
1. Intensify efforts at translating health research results into policies, products, and practice;
2. Expanding the use and harnessing of emerging technologies in health research and development;
3. Establish a knowledge management system for health research and development;
4. Review organizational structure, functions, staffing, and HRHR systems;
5. Establish a functional monitoring and evaluation system for PNHRS;
6. Enhance competencies of PNHRS managers, trainers/mentors, secretariat, and RHRDC members, PHREB NECs, and REMBs/RECs;
7. Strengthen the capacity-building efforts of PNHRS to set up a more resilient research infrastructure for health; and
8. Implement a targeted Advocacy Program for sustainable funding.
