THE TOP 10 HEALTH RESEARCH PRIORITIES IN THE BICOL REGION


1. HEALTH GOVERNANCE

Involves the systems and processes that manage and oversee health policies and services. It includes policy making, regulation, resource allocation, accountability, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring.

2. COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

Illnesses caused by pathogens that spread between people or from animals to humans through contact, airborne droplets, or contaminated resources.

3. MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

Focuses on the well-being of women during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as the health of infants and young children. It includes prenatal care, safe delivery practices, postnatal care, and child health services.

4. HEALTH WORKFORCE

Encompasses all individuals involved in delivering healthcare services, including doctors, nurses, technicians, and support staff. It is crucial for ensuring effective patient care, health system efficiency, and the overall functioning of healthcare services

5. HEALTH SERVICE DELIVERY

Methods and processes by which healthcare services are provided to individuals and communities. It involves the organization, management, and implementation of services, including preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care.

6. NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

Are chronic conditions not caused by infectious agents and cannot be transmitted between individuals. Examples include heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

7. FOOD SCARCITY AND SECURITY

Addressing the lack of sufficient food to meet the needs of a population, to ensure that everyone has consistent access to enough nutritious food for a healthy life.

8. HEALTH SEEKING BEHAVIOR

Actions individuals take to maintain or improve their health, including seeking medical care, using preventive measures, and following treatment advice.

9. DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT

Strategies and actions to minimize the impact of disasters on health systems and populations

10. MENTAL HEALTH

Encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being, affecting how individuals think, feel, and handle stress.

2023 BICOL REGIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY WEEK
TECH-UP BICOL: Harnessing the power of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for Regional Development

The Department of Science and Technology Region V (DOST-V) and the Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development (BCHRD) congratulate the National Finalists and Winners during the 16th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week Celebration –Research Contests held on 09 August 2023. Together with the DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), the 16th PNHRS Week Celebration was hosted by the Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC) on 8-11 August 2023 at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City, with the theme, “Sustainable Development: Resilience through Health Research.”

By virtue of Proclamation No. 1309, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo designated the second week of August as the Philippine National Health Research System Week in 2007, marking a significant milestone in the field of health research. The week-long celebration is designed to hold parallel and plenary sessions, regular forums, and focus group discussions to promote a smoother exchange of health research and related information among concerned stakeholders.

 Every second week of August, the health research community celebrates the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week. Hosted by the Central Luzon Health Research and Development Consortium (CLHRDC) with the Department of Science and Technology III (DOST III), this year’s PNHRS Week theme is “Health Research: Responding to Challenges towards National Recovery and Resiliency”.

The celebration will be conducted on 08-12 August 2022 in a hybrid format of face-to-face and virtual conference. The face-to-face activities will be held at Clark Marriot Hotel, Pampanga, to be attended by a total of 250 persons and streamed via Zoo, and Facebook Live for the virtual participants.

It will also serve as a venue for different stakeholders to share their best practices and experiences in pursuit of healthier lives for Filipinos through health research and development. BCHRD has nominated several completed researches for the 15th PNHRS Oral Paper and Visual Abstract Poster Competition and 3-Minute Pitch to Policymakers Competition for Student and Professional Category,

Two (2) researches were fortunately accepted as finalists as follows:

to be presented by Ms. Maedel Joice B. Castro for Student Category

 and 

 "Mga Katutubong Gamit ng Halamang Singaw: A Systematic Review on the Utilization of Macrofungi by Indigenous Communities in the Philippines"

to be presented by Mr. Mheljor A. General for Professional Category
