The Philippine Association of Medical Journal Editors (PAMJE) Inc. with support from the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST PCHRD) and Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors (APAME) is organizing the 17th National Medical Writing Workshop and 10th Writeshop for Young Researchers on 30-31 March 2020 in Tacloban City. The workshop aims to help young investigators in health and health social sciences acquire practical knowledge and skills in preparing a scientific article for publication in a scholarly peer-reviewed journal. Successful applicants will be granted free workshop registration, accommodation, and meals during the workshop, and will be assigned to a mentor-facilitator who will guide them in preparing their articles for a brief presentation.

Requirements for participants
The workshop is designed for a maximum of forty (40) researchers in health sciences and health social sciences, aged 40 years old and below, who have a research project completed not more than 2 years ago and have drafted a publication-ready manuscript of maximum 2,500 - 3,000 words, formatted for submission to a scholarly biomedical journal. Note that thesis, dissertations, and technical reports in original format and length do not qualify. The selected draft manuscripts will be reviewed and revised during the workshop, based on the lectures and exercises, under the guidance of the faculty and mentor – facilitators. All participants are expected to present a powerpoint summary of their revised manuscripts on the second day of the workshop and agree to submit the article to an appropriate scholarly peer-reviewed journal within three (3) months after the workshop.

The Future Earth Philippines Program (FEPP), Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development (BCHRD), and Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium (MMHRDC) is organizing a Consultation Workshop on Nature-based Health Products Research and Development Program for Bicol Region to be hosted by Ateneo De Naga University on October 17-18, 2019.


The consultation workshop will be facilitated by the team of Dr. Lourdes J. Cruz of Future Earth Philippines Program (FEPP) under the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) with the goal to improve the country’s capacity to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs). Their strategy is to establish Knowledge to Action Programs that will effectively translate relevant knowledge for the achievement of the Philippine environmental, social and economic sustainability for the benefit of all its citizens. The program also aims to structure the research training of the participants who work on Nature-based Health Products and capacitate the region’s researchers.

Oral Research Paper Presentation and Poster Exhibit Contest

  1. QUALIFICATIONS
    1. a research project completed within the last 3 years, but not featured in the previous BCHRD fora
    2. a research paper authored by a researcher from BCHRD member institution and funded by the BCHRD core agencies (PCHRD-DOST, DOH, CHED, UP Manila) and/or other local and international funding institutions
  2. DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS
    1. For the research presentation; One (1) hard copy and electronic copy of the completed research paper in publishable form
    2. For the Poster exhibit; One (1) hard copy and electronic copy of the poster and research abstract
    3. Endorsement form signed by the Head of the Institution
    4. Applicable research authorization/ clearance/permit:
      1. Ethics Clearance
      2. National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) permit
      3. Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) authorization
      4. Biosafety Permit
      5. Gratuitous Permit
  1. SCREENING PROCESS
    1. The BCHRD will conduct initial review of submitted entries to check the eligibility and completeness of required documents.
    2. After initial review, the entries will be forwarded for evaluation to BCHRD consultants which will be composed of content and methodology experts.
    3. For the Oral Research Paper Presentation, a total of six (6) research papers will be selected for presentation.
    4. For the Poster Exhibit contest, poster entries that passed the screening process will be selected for presentation.
    5. Qualified entries will be notified through the consortia.
  2. FINAL JUDGING

The final judging will be held during the BCHRD Regional Health Research Forum by selected technical experts/consultants identified by the Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development

The Department of Science and Technology Region V (DOST V) in partnership with the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) and S&T networks/consortia in the region will conduct the 2019 Bicol Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (BRICE) on 08-10 October 2019 in Naga City, back-to-back with the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) Celebration.

BRICE is conducted every other year, alternately with the National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE) pursuant to Section 4 of Republic Act No. 7459, also known as “Inventors and Invention Incentives Act of the Philippines”. As a regional competition, BRICE recognizes outstanding inventive and creative works in five (5) categories namely: Outstanding Invention (Tuklas Award); Outstanding Utility Model (UM); Outstanding Industrial Design (ID); Outstanding Creative Research (Likha Award) in two (2) sub-categories: government-funded and private-funded; and
Outstanding Student Creative Research (Sibol Award) for High School and College Students. Also, BRICE serves as qualifying round and the regional champions compete during NICE in November of the following year. Qualified inventors, individual designers, makers and professional/student researchers are required to submit their BRICE entries together with the following
documents, completely filled-up, signed by contestant/s and notarized entry forms (one copy each) to DOST V, Regional Center Site, Rawis, Legazpi City on or before 06 September 2019, 5:00 p.m. Note: Pre-Screening of Entries is set on 09 September 2019. Only the owners of qualified entries shall be notified for their participation in BRICE (final evaluation by the Board of Judges).
